Library to wrap up music series Sept. 25
Clayton Mathis and The Preacher, Stephen Pecot, will grace the stage at the Apalachicola Margaret Key Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. ET for the final show of the Summer Music Series.
Mathis hails from Gaffney, South Carolina where he developed his love of music. His grandmother tried to teach him piano but he quit at age 12, and three years later, tried guitar lessons but gave up after he couldn’t seem to grasp the concept of “practice.” His love of music continued and he listened to every genre imaginable; from Ernest Tubb to Wu-Tang Clan to Guns N’Roses to Thievery Corporation. In 2013 he moved to Apalachicola where his surroundings inspired him to pick up the guitar again. He now writes and performs music, weaving around topics such as religion, politics, unanswered questions, relationships, drinking, love, and family. In 2020, his brother produced his debut album “Welcome to the in Between” in Columbia, South Carolina. A brewer/bar owner by day, Mathis performs in local bars.
Pecot, priest at Apalachicola’s Trinity Episcopal Church, is a New Orleans native who has played guitar and bass in numerous rock and roll bands for 40 years. He, wife Travis, and several animals, including two horses, moved to Apalachicola in 2023.
The free concert closes out the Summer Music Series presented by PALS, the Friends of the Library, with the financial support of the 2022 Porchfest Committee. Refreshments will be available by donation.
