Seahawks post six-game win streak
After falling for the only time this season in early December in Tallahassee to Maclay, the Franklin County boys basketball team has posted a six-game winning streak to up their record to 9-1.
On Dec. 9 in Tallahassee, the Seahawks were overwhelmed by Maclay 70-42.
Senior Ajaylen McNair led the team with eight points, followed by seven each for freshmen Braelin Morris and Karcen Poloronis. Junior Ja’michael Miller followed with six points, with sophomores Sadiq Jones and Jeremiah Allen each scoring four, and freshmen Dre North and Kayden Drake, and junior Neo Robinson each with two.
Polonoris and Miller led the team with six rebounds; Morris had three steals and Poloronis and Miller each two. Jones blocked three shots.
The Seahawks’ six game streak began Dec. 10 at home, as they defeated district rival Wewahitchka 70-33. Jones led the team with 16 points, with 13 from Morris, 11 from Poloronis, eight from North, and seven from Drake. Sophomore Drew Rickards scored five, McNair four, Robinson three, Allen two and junior Kingston Williams one.
Morris had five assists and four steals, and Robinson led the team with five rebounds.
While the team shot 54 percent from the field, they hit just 44 percent from the free throw line.
On Dec. 12 at Graceville, Coach Ray Bailey’s Seahawks edged the Tigers 59-52 to continue their winning ways. Jones led the team with 15 points, three assists and four steals, with a dozen points each from Morris and Miller, who pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the team.
Allen scored seven, McNair five and Robinson three, with two points each from Poloronis and North and one by Williams. The team improved their performance at the charity stripe to 60 percent.
On Dec. 17 at Wewa, the Seahawks defeated the Gators for the second time, this time 73-49.
Poloronis posted a 21-point night, and Morris put up 18 on the scoreboard, plus seven assists. Miller, Drake and Robinson each scored seven, with six from McNair, four from Rickards and three from North.
Miller led the team with nine rebounds, six steals and two assists. The team shot 63 percent from the field, and 70 percent from the free throw line.
On Dec. 19 at home, the Seahawks handed Liberty County their first loss of the year, handing the Bulldogs a 19-11 lead after the first quarter and then coming back to win 51-41.
Jones scored 13, including three treys, and Morris 12, with seven points from North, six each from Allen and Miller, five by Robinson and two by Poloronis. Morris pulled down 11 rebounds, and posted for assist and two steals. North, Miller and Jones each stole the ball three times.
The Seahawks as a team shot 47 percent from the field, but just 43 percent from the free throw line.
On Dec. 20 at home, the Seahawks won their fifth straight, downing Sneads 50-31, as Robinson hit for back-to-back three pointers to turn the tide in the second quarter.
Franklin County then followed that up by downing Bell 59-38 the following afternoon, also at home.
