Carrabelle woman injured in New Year’s Eve crash

A 79-year-old Carrabelle woman suffered serious injuries when the car she was riding struck a pick-up truck pulling a camper on Tuesday evening just east of Westpoint on U.S. 98.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck was driven by a 53-year-old Brandon man, with a 52-year-old Brandon woman as passenger at about 5:30 p.m. on U.S. 98 near Gulf View Road.

The report said the truck and camper were stopped half on the shoulder and half in the westbound lane of US 98, facing west, when it was approached by the sedan, also traveling west.

The report said that due to the truck and camper having stopped improperly in the roadway, and due to the sun glare, the driver of the sedan, an 83-year-old Carrabelle man, collided with the rear of the camper. The sedan had two passengers, the 79-year-old Carrabelle woman and an 11-year-old girl from Lanark Village.

Following the collision, the truck and camper came to rest in the next driveway west of Coastline RV Resort, facing north.

All the drivers and passengers involved were wearing seatbelts. The Carrabelle woman sustained serious injuries; everyone else involved had either no injuries or minor injuries.
