Fire department gets four new EMRs

Hi Y’all, a lot is happening in our little village of Lanark, so let’s get going with it.

Exciting news from our St. James/Lanark Volunteer Fire Department. You probably already know that the fire ban has been lifted, and the community thanks the Franklin County commissioners for that. Please be mindful that this lifting still has restrictions, such as properly contained fire with distance requirements, and always attended with a water hose nearby. Your new fire department asks you to be mindful of the dangers that fire can suddenly cause.

They are a volunteer fire department and are always looking for new volunteers. There will be a one-agenda meeting. Please be mindful that this is a board of directors special meeting. The business meeting will be held first, and I don’t have the full details. If you are interested in learning more, please attend the meeting. If you would like to speak, please prepare a speaker card and have it before the meeting on Monday, Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. at the fire station building on Oak Street. Four department volunteers have recently completed training as emergency medical responders, also known as first responders, by learning CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator). These newly trained EMRs are Remona Larsen, Chris Barnett, Missy McCuen and Mike Salyer. Congratulations to our heroes and thank you to Franklin County Emergency Medical Services for the training.

The Lanark Village Golf Club had its first monthly yard sale of 2025. It is on again for the first Saturday of the month and all were happy to see it back. Stay in touch for something special next month. The golf club is changing its meetings to the first Thursday of every month, so it will be Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Oak Street. All members and potential members are invited.

The Chili Cook-off, a benefit to help fund the Lanark Village Association’s operating expenses, was a great success. Yummy chili was judged by the public. Congratulations to the winner, Judy Hutt Thomas; runner-up Tim Woxman; and third place Jeff Allen. The LVA thanks all for participating. The silent auction was a huge success with generous donations.

The LVA has its monthly members meeting on Monday, Feb. 3 at Chillas Hall starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. Please come to the meetings to see how you can help your community flourish.

American Legion Post 82 in Lanark invites all to its “Soup R Bowl” evening on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. to watch the Super Bowl LIX, while having a variety of soups, salads, desserts, and all the fixings, for $10.

Lanark will have its offering of Happy Valentine’s Day events, on Friday, Feb. 14 when the American Legion offers Valentines’ Burger Night with music by John Jeremiah. The LVA is hosting a gathering at Chillas Hall from 6 to 9 p.m. with desserts and a dance for a $5 donation. This is BYOB; you don’t have to be a member to come. Stay close to home and have fun.

Lanark Village organizations’ events can be found posted at Chillas Hall in the clear covered outside bulletin board.

Love Lanark
