Lanarkians dazzle at dog parade

Hi Y’all,
Lanark rocked with some of our residents shining at the Apalachicola Mardi Gras Barkus Parade. This is a really fun activity that all of the Franklin County area and visitors enjoy participating in.
Lanark’s own Harley Young, along with dog mom Cat and dog dad George Young, won the 1st Place Blue Ribbon. Harley’s costume was a dragon with an elaborate face painted. Cat created and made the costume.
For the wonderful floats that participated, Lanark’s long-time resident Joan Matey and her crew (Joan and Sue Price were Royalty, Rodney Reeves was St. George the Lion Fish Slayer, and walking were Art and Judy Lucas as the Good Fryer and St Teresa Beach, Jan De Cosmo, as the Red Tide She-Devil, giving out beads and Mike Lewis with a dog head on riding in the truck, won 1st place for “Fishy Fashion Show Float”. Almost everything used on the float was created and made by artist Joan. Often the materials that are used come from the sea and beach.
Another Lanark resident favorite was Sara Dugger and Coco. Coco was dressed as Coco, but so was Mom Sara. Sara wore a full-head mask to look like Coco. Sara designed and created this mask with instructions from a class that Joan Matey taught. Some of our residents joined as vendors like Christina Gomer and Hope Stewart selling their wonderful baked goods from Salty Shenanigans Farm Store. Thanks to all who participated, you were all winners.
The Lanark Village Association presented “Thank You” plaques to two persons who have been of great benefit to the LVA fundraising efforts. Janie Shafer was recognized for her hard work and dedication to the success of the “Silent Auction” at the fund-raising Chili Cook-Off and Suzy Gritman for heading up the weekly Wednesday Bingo at Chillas Hall, a successful fundraiser, and a fun time for all.

They have changed their meeting date to the first Thursday of the month. A member’s meeting will be March 6th, at 6:30 p.m. held at the American Legion.
