Lanark celebrates St. Patrick’s Day in style

Hi Y’all,

I was on a wonderful cruise with my son and his family and was out of touch. I will play catch up with some events you already know about and maybe not.

The Lanark Village Association and community honored Aileen Benson on March 9 for her many years of service and dedication to our community. Aileen and husband Bob moved to Lanark in 1992. They were both very active in the community, but Bob passed away in 2016. Alieen continues to be active and hosts the group to play bridge once a week. For many years she has had the support of her son, Robert, a resident of Lanark, but sadly he passed away in August 2024. It is an honor to the LVA and the community to have this celebration in her honor. Thank you to our beautiful and sweet lady.

The Lanark Village Boat Club was given beautiful aprons from the Lanark Wandering Stars Quilt group for the volunteers to wear for the monthly breakfasts. The boat club does a lot to support the quilt group, and the quilters wanted to show their appreciation. Come to breakfast on the third Saturday of each month to see how great the aprons look. All are welcome.

The Lanark Village Golf Club had its annual St. Patrick’s Day golf cart parade on Saturday, March 15. This is a fun event that anyone can participate in. After the parade, there was judging of the carts, a yummy hot dog dinner, and a silent auction at the American Legion. First place went to Natalie Little and rider Hannah Wimberly; second place to Jennifer Hobby; and third place to Dee Ansley. Congratulations to all. This event is a fundraiser to maintain the golf course, which is the beautiful entrance to Lanark Village.

There was to be a meeting of the St. James – Lanark Volunteer Fire Department at the station on Monday, March 17 at 6 p.m. ET. Come to support your new fire department at these meetings, which are informative with an opportunity to hear what is being done.

The annual clean-up for Lanark Village Proper (from Collins west to Carlton east) will be Saturday, March 29. Items will be picked up on the side of the road by volunteers; please have your items out by 8 a.m. No household garbage, no yard debris (that can be taken to the designated place on Oak Street), and no contractors’ debris. There will be more information next week and flyers will be posted throughout Lanark.

Love Lanark
