St. James Fire Department steps up outreach
Hi Y’all, the year is moving fast. We are already in the first of spring. Soon the snowbirds will be flying out and the summer visitors will be here.
Many of you have questions about the St. James – Lanark Volunteer Fire Department. It is up and running and the best way to learn about it is to come to the meetings. Being a functioning fire department, they have started having meetings on the third Monday of each month. These meetings are at the firehouse and start at 6 p.m. ET. Get involved! Franklin County plans to allow a vote to property owners to increase the funds paid by an additional fee, along with our taxes. My understanding is that all of the fire departments in Franklin County will be asking for an increase. For Lanark, it is now $50 a year and is based on an outdated budget. Please do yourself a favor and support your fire department. The needs are great; did you know that all of the equipment has expiration dates that are checked periodically? For your insurance rates to decrease, our fire department must have all the required training, certifications, and updated equipment. The community will need to have fundraisers to meet these needs. Neither the fees at tax time, nor the county, can provide enough money to cover the costs. Support your fire department!
The Lanark Village Association has delivered bags with information about joining the LVA and the importance of this organization to the community. Please consider joining for the betterment of the area. Email to lanarkvillageassociation@gmail.com for more information. One event the LVA has is Thirsty Thursday; this past week we had 32 people attend. This is a great way to meet your neighbors in a comfortable setting doing what we do best, enjoying a good meal.
There will be a clean-up day on Saturday, March 29. This clean-up is Only for the Village area (apartments between Newman to Carlton). Meet at Chillas Hall at 8 a.m. to start. The county will provide gloves and big trash bags for the volunteers to use. Volunteers are needed to walk around the Village picking up trash (not household garbage or yard debris) and trucks are needed to haul the larger items and the big bags. Please have what you want to dispose of on the county right-of-way at the end of your row by 8 a.m. After the clean-up, the LVA will have a thank-you picnic; hot dogs and chips will be served to all volunteers and members. Soft drinks will be available for a small donation. Let’s all join in!
The Lanark Village Golf Club will have its monthly yard sale on Heffernan across from Chillas Hall, starting at 8 a.m. If you have any donations, please bring them during the sale. Thank you for your continued support.
Grab your calendar! The LVA will have a spring evening event on Saturday, April 12 at Chillas Hall. I will have more information on this fun event next week. Watch for posted flyers.
Love Lanark!
