Seahawks lift record to 10-5
As the Franklin County Seahawks varsity baseball team nears a Friday evening showdown at home against Port St. Joe, they’ve been playing at a little better than a .500 clip, winning four of their last seven games.
The month started with a loss at Blountstown March 4, as the Seahawks fell 8-5 to the Tigers.
Both teams managed eight hits, with junior Nolan Alford banging out three for the Seahawks. Junior Colby Blackburn added a two-run double.
In Jefferson County March 7, the Seahawks shut out the Tigers 14-0 in four innings, as Alford one-hit the opponents and struck out eight.
On March 11 at home, Franklin County edged Aucilla Christian 3-2, as Alford and Blakcburn each had a hit and one RBI. Blackburn hurled six innings, striking out and gave up no earned runs.
At Rutherford March 12, the Ram won it 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth. Senior Preston Klaus struck out seven and freshman Gabe Kelly two as they shared pitching duties. Sophomore Sadiq Jones had three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs.
Sophomores Jeremiah Allen and freshman Karcen Poloronis each had two hits.
On the road March 14, the Seahawks down Crossroad Academy 21-0 in three innings, as the Scorpions managed just two hits.
Klaus banged a double and drove in four runs, while Allen had three RBI, and Blackburn, Alford and freshman J.T. Mathes each two.
The Seahawks traveled to Bonifay March 17, and lost 16-0 in four innings to the Holmes County Blue Devils.
Poloronis, Blackburn, Alford and sophomore Chason Martina had the only hits of the game.
On Friday at home, the Seahawks, under the coaching of Coach Brock Johnson and assistant Lloyd Alford, got back in the groove, with a 16-1, four-inning defeat on Jefferson County.
Klaus and Martina each struck out four as they shared pitching duties, as junior Britt Martinez got the Tigers’ only hit.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
