Area students achieve academic distinction at GCSC

Gulf Coast State College has announced the students named to the President’s and Dean’s Honor Lists for the Spring 2025 semester. The President’s List includes all full-time students (enrolled for 12 or more college credit hours) who earned a grade point average of 3.90 to 4.00. The Dean’s List is awarded to students enrolled in 12 or more college credit hours who earned a grade point average of 3.70 to 3.89.

Students from Gulf and Franklin counties named to the President’s List include Erica Balzell, Jenna Barfield, Luke Hjort, Mazie Hodges, Rebecca Leyendecker, Skylar Mathews, Kaitlynn McGuffin, Elizabeth Paul, Hannah Riley, Karagan Roberts, Jay Whitfield and Allie Zingarelli 

Area students named to the Dean’s List were Emma Burke, Samantha Childers, Destiny Gray, Judson Griffies, Joseph Hoffman, Jacob Jones, Chandlee Morgan, Jordan Pippin, and Sophia Salman.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
