Celebration of Life for Rodney Kelly Sunday

Hi Y’all, most of you know that Lanark Village and the surrounding areas are historic. Even before Camp Gordon Johnston (originally Camp Carrabelle) in 1942, it was a resort town named Lanark-On-The-Gulf, with a beautiful resort inn, Lanark Inn, in the late 1800s. You can get more information by visiting the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum and the City of Carrabelle History Museum.

Lanark is proud of its history, and many are very supportive of the American Legion. It is a part of our day-to-day life. Now, having said that, you will often see their activities mentioned in my article. They do a lot of good for this and other communities.

On Saturday, June 7, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser was held at American Legion, Post 82, hosted by friends for Troy Smith after he had emergency surgery and couldn’t do his amazing handyman work. There was a great turnout. A beautiful hand-painted table was donated and auctioned off. There were also a couple of raffles for the cause. Get well soon, Troy.

This Sunday, June 15, a Celebration of Life in remembrance of Rodney Kelly will be at Post 82, at 2316 Oak Street. Family and friends will gather at 2 p.m. ET If you would like to speak of something you remember, you are welcome too, or if you want to write it down for someone else to share. If you have pictures of Rodney, you may email them to me at p.funderburk@yahoo.com or bring them with you. Please bring a finger food dish or dessert to share. Tea and water will be provided. At the request of his parents, Deanna and Millard Collins, the lounge will not be open. The lounge will open at its regular time, 4 p.m.

The Lanark Village Association Coffee Time has resumed during the summer with different volunteers. Watch for any changes. Bingo has resumed at its regular time, Wednesday at Chillas Hall, doors open at 6 p.m. and play at 6:30 p.m. Regular members’ meetings will resume in the fall. Thirsty Thursday, a Village favorite, will resume and the Tuesday game night will also continue.

The St. James – Lanark Volunteer Fire Department will have an Open House on Monday, June 16 at 6 p.m. There will be ice cream. The department is ready to support its community, now it is time to support them. They will be able to share with you what is going on with the progress and how we can help. They will also have some information on the clearing of the lot for the future ambulance’s home. This is our community, this is our home, it could even be our lives. You fisherpersons “go fishing” and have a fish fry to support your firefighters.

Happy Father’s Day!

Love Lanark!
