Seahawk volleyballers finish as district runner-up

The Franklin County Seahawk volleyball team finished as runner-up, falling last week to Bozeman in  the finals.

The defeat left them with a season record of 8-8. Tara Klink’s squad lost in three straight 25-8, 25-13 and 25.9.

The Seahawk had  WON their district opener at home against Wewahitchka, in three straight 25-21, 25-11, and 25-14. They were led by sophomore Ryan Brown with nine kills.

On Oct. 13 at home, the team downed Godby i n three straight, 25-12, 25-21 and 25-18. Brown had 12 kills and senior Skylar Johnson eight.

On Oct. 11 at Cottondale, the team fell in three straight, 25-8, 25-11 and 25-13.

On Oct. 3 at home for Senior Night, the varsity downed Port St. Joe in three straight, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.

Marissa Gilbert led service points with six aces, followed by Johnson with 4 aces and Kylee Grace Smith with 3 aces. Brown scored 5 kills, while Gilbert and Maleah Bell had 2 kills each.

“I’m so proud of the constant improvements this team has made throughout the season,” said Klink.

The JV  lost in the final set after winning the opener 25-22. They then fell 20-25 and 9-15.

Lilah Millender led service points with 5 aces, followed by Lexi Webb with 4 aces. Jada Lockley, Hailey Loesch, and Lexi Webb all scored 2 kills each. 

“We’ve had some time off, but we’ll keep working,” said Klink.

At home on Sept. 27, the team downed Wakulla Christian in three straight, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-9. Brown and Johnson led with kills and blocks..

On Sept. 22 at Bristol, the team lost in three straight to highly-ranked Liberty County, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-9. Brown led once again with five kills.

The girls lost a tough one at Rickards Sept. 20, losing in five games.

They lost the first 25-18 and then came back to take the second, 26-24. They lost the third 25-16 but came back to win the fourth 26-24. In the fifth and final game, they fell 15-13.
