We are getting closer to Thanksgiving, I want to let you know the following so you can put it on your calendars:
All veterans, guests and Post 82 members are invited to the American Legion Post 82, Lanark Village at 2316 Oak Street for a Happy Thanksgiving Eve Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 23 starting at 5:30 p.m. If you would like to bring a dish to share you may, the meal is free. We are truly blessed to have our veterans!
The Lanark Village Association is hosting a Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, Nov. 24 starting at noon in Chillas Hall, Lanark Village on Heffernan. There is a signup sheet in Chillas Hall, weekdays from 8 to 11 a.m., to help us know how many to expect and what dish you will be bringing to share (serves 10). Turkey, dressing, gravy, tea and coffee will be provided by the association. You are welcome, if you want, to bring your own plates and BYOB. If you can not come to the Hall to sign up, you may email your information to me.
Veterans Day was a heartfelt day at the American Legion Post 82 in Lanark with a color ceremony featuring the Franklin County School Jr. ROTC and guest speaker Cadet Ensign Bradley Page and celebration for the veterans. After the ceremony the veterans were served free hamburgers. It was well-attended with two of our longtime veterans joining in: Mr. Bob Dietz and Mr. Fred Aman, both of whom are Lanark residents.
The Lanark Village Association monthly meeting was held after this writing, so I will have some information in the next article.
The county commissioners' meeting agenda at this writing was not showing the trash can ordinance again. If they put it on, it will be Monday afternoon. There was a swearing in/oath of office ceremony for Commissioner Ottice D. Amison and Commissioner Cheryl Sanders, our new commissioner for District 2. Congratulations to her and thank you to our previous commissioner Bert Boldt.
Any questions concerning the St. James/Lanark Volunteer Fire Department can be directed to Mr. Robert Amick, St. James/Lanark Village Fire Department coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Lanark Village Boat Club breakfast is this weekend, Saturday, Nov. 19.
If you have heard anything about Board Band, please take note, as this is a very important issue to our community. More to come.
The bear sightings are getting more frequent in the village.
BE BEAR WISE, Get Help, Report Conflicts, Know the Laws, 850-265-3676 and www.myfwc.com/bear. They are out there. Short-term rental owners, please advise your guests to secure garbage and you be sure to supply a secure place for garbage. We don't want it spread all over Lanark. Thank You.
