Volunteers needed for community to run smoothly

Posted

Hi Y'all,

Breaking News! Our Chillas Hall in Lanark Village has been painted on the inside.

It looks great and we want to say “Thank You” to two volunteers who worked for weeks to get this accomplished. One day for a couple of hours two others helped, outside of that nobody else stepped up. Thank goodness we have a few good volunteers who will help with the organization's needs. I just don't think that residents understand the work that it takes to keep everything running. How could it be that people just don't care? Some even criticize volunteers for helping out. Those of you are saying “Oh that is the way it is in Lanark,” well it is not just in Lanark. I have heard St. George Island people complain about no volunteers. Please, those of you who don't help out, could you start to help, even a little is a help.

There is not much news about the St. James/Lanark Volunteer Fire Department. This does not mean that the residents can stop caring. Get involved, send emails to all of the county commissioners and the county attorney. Let them know that we count on the east side of Franklin and we need our fire department and ambulances. The fire department needs volunteer firefighters so that we can get back to the business of protection.

Fred Aman's beautiful bronze creations and art will continue to be on display at The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle, 102 Highway 98, Carrabelle, for the next two weeks, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tell your friends and neighbors. Fred's art is not for sale; it is being displayed for your pleasure.

Don't forget,”Wine Down Wednesday,” hosted by the Lanark Village Association every Wednesday at Chillas Hall. Cocktails at 5 p.m. (BYOB of anything) and covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. Lots of good socializing.

There is a Burn Ban in the Lanark area until the St. James/Lanark Fire Department is back on its feet. You must attend all fires and grills at all times.

BE BEAR WISE, Get Help, Report Conflicts, Know the Laws, 850-265-3676 and www.myfwc.com/bear. They are out there. Short term renters, please advise your guests to secure garbage and you be sure to supply a secure place for garbage. We don't want it spread all over Lanark. Thank you!

Love Lanark
