Problems persist with Lanark mail delivery

Amnesty Day is coming your way this week on Saturday, July 24. Get that junk where it belongs, the dump.

The Lanark Village Boat Club pancake breakfast was a huge success. It is so much fun to see your friends again. Many of our residents bring their out-of-town families and company to this event. It is a great time with great food. Remember, every third Saturday of the month.

Mail delivery in the Lanark area has been a disaster for over a month now. It isn’t only that at first, people were not getting deliveries for many days, and when they did, it would be at very odd times. Not knowing when your mail is coming can cause too many issues to count. People were not getting their medicines and many deliveries came in the evenings, leaving the mail subject to theft overnight. Packages, if delivered at all, often went to the wrong address, then the situation escalated to upon receipt, the packages had been opened and often items were missing.

This past week Lanark residents were able to tell their stories to Brandon Spencer of WCTV, and the results were aired on Friday evening, July 16. Residents have been begging for some help in getting this issue resolved. We are hoping that this will help. Don’t stop contacting officials. One suggestion has been to contact U.S. Rep Neal Dunn at dunn.house.gov/contact.

Have you noticed the beautiful new benches in Gene Sewell Park in Lanark Village? Thank you to Franklin County for supplying the new benches and for painting them. The Lanark Village Association supplied the paint. Franklin County officially donated this park in 2014 to my mom, Gene Sewell (Queen of Lanark Village 2006-14). Our district commissioner at that time, Cheryl Sanders had a lot to do with getting this park dedicated. The park is a county park and they maintain it very nicely. Lanark’s present Queen, Dot Bless Chidester, and Deborah Desilets have worked tirelessly with getting beautiful plants, donated by the Lanark Village Association, planted in the park. This park is open for all to enjoy its serenity.

The Franklin County Library is a wonderful source of knowledge, entertainment and events. I have been asked to let you know about those that you might be interested in.

Eastpoint Branch – Friday, July 23 Medicare Counseling from 10 a.m. to noon. Free.

Carrabelle Branch – Wednesday, July 28 Storytime and Birdfeeders ages 4+ at 3 p.m.

Just a short little comment, I know times are bad, but on Facebook last week there was a list of jobs available in Franklin County. There were too many to list. So many you could get, by saying where you wanted to work and there would be an opening. Right now our own Lanark Mart has an opening, something that you could walk to. Check with them if you need a job.

Reminders:

The Coffee Time is still going strong on Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Chillas Hall. On Thursdays, the representative of the Veterans Administration will be there to answer any of your questions. Coffee is free on Thursdays, compliments of the veterans representative.

The American Legion has their cheeseburger/hamburger night. They will be serving these wonderful burgers on Friday nights 5 to 7 p.m. If you want to call ahead, call 850-697-9998. The dining and bar areas are now open; the public is invited. On Sunday evenings, also from 5 to 7 p.m. they serve pizza.

The Lanark Village Golf Club is always open for your fun, easy-going golfing needs. We are the only course on the bay, and you can come spend the day for only $5 per person, and anyone can join for only $50 a year. Also, we rent our sign out for special messages, such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc.

There is Trivia at the Crooked River Grill on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Many of our Lanark people enjoy this activity. Also, The Crooked River Grill at St. James Bay Golf Resort off Highway 98, east of Lanark Village, invites you to enjoy live music at their new outdoor pavilion on Saturdays at 6 p.m.
