Lanark prepares for weekend yard sale

Hope that your Halloween was fun!

The Lanark Village Boat Club had a members appreciation
Octoberfest on Saturday. The food and fun were wonderful and Teresa and George
Bookwalter and the other volunteers worked really hard to make it nice. It was
disappointing to have such a small attendance. It was a beautiful day. Please
remember that some work very hard to give others a good time, so keep that in
mind when you choose not to show up. I am sure that it was because Saturday was
busy with doing Halloween stuff.

Lanark is so lucky to have so many talented people amongst
our midst. One resident and volunteer of Florida Wild Mammal Association,
Richard Fravel, has donated one of his original stained glass creations, Sea
Creatures, to the FWMA to be raffled off. The size is 26 inches by 28 inches, with
a value of $1,400. All proceeds go to the FWMA. You may make this beautiful
piece yours and help the wildlife by buying raffle tickets at the following
places: Florida Seafood Festival, Coastal Cottage Living or online at
//go.rallyup.com/707e48. Ticket costs are: $5 for entry, $25 for six entries. Drawing
is on Thanksgiving Day.

The Lanark Village Association had their monthly meeting on
Monday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. We had a good crowd and thank you so much for coming
out to support your community. The secretary of the organization, Wanda
Johnson, resigned her position on the board, leaving the association without a treasurer
and a secretary. We were lucky to have two ladies step up to temporally fill
the vacancies, Patricia Bludworth for treasurer and Vicki Hart for recretary. Thank
you ladies so much.

Capt. Brad Segree, from the sheriff’s office, joined us at
the meeting to assist us with any questions we might have. He gave us some
information on some reports of suspicious activities, arrests, theft, etc.
which he said was low in numbers. Our biggest discussion for the evening with
the captain was disposing yard trash on Oak Street. I myself am confused about
not using this county right-of-way to put leaves and branches and other yard
debris in this area for the county to pick-up. I live in the row homes where
you cannot leave your sticks and branches in your yard. We have a designated
area on county right-of-way, the county picks it up and goes on up to Oak
Street, they have been really good about picking it up. Beware of leaving yard
debris on Oak Street, it is being monitored and so many of you still think that
it is OK for yard debris as it was at one time.

Please continue to come to the meetings, there is so much we
can accomplice with everybody’s help. We will be voting new governors to the
board in December, will need you to vote.

The Lanark Village Golf Club will be having a huge Yard Sale
this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 to 7, 8:30 a.m. ‘till? in
Lanark Village on Heffernan. We need volunteers to help, especially for set-up
on Thursday and breakdown on Sunday. Let me know please. Letters to the club
have been sent out. If you didn’t receive yours, please email me. The club
really needs your help and you don’t have to live in the Lanark area.

The Lanark Village Association is working on having a
Thanksgiving Dinner, please let us know if you want to come by signing up in
Chillas Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 to 11 a.m. Seating is limited to 100. We
also need volunteers to help decorate the hall, serve and clean up.
Commissioner Bert Boldt will be donating the turkeys. Thank you, commissioner.

Grab those calendars: Please make note of this important
announcement. The county is sponsoring county wide Code Enforcement Workshops.
Those of interest to us are Unincorporated Carrabelle on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and
Lanark Village, on Tuesday, Nov. 16. We have been begging for years to have code
enforcement officers. This may be our chance to convince the county that the
need is great and the vision of a “A Beautiful Franklin County” can only be fulfilled
with caring and concern for our community.
