Mexico Beach Gumbo Cook-off
The annual Mexico Beach Gumbo Cook-Off is coming back hot this year.
Chefs will bring a variety of tasty gumbo and Brunswick stew for guests to enjoy all day long on Saturday, Feb. 18, beginning at 10 a.m. at Parker Park.
There will also be cold beverages, hot dogs and sausage dogs.
Salt Air Farmers Market
Shop local farmers and artisans. Let your family enjoy art pieces and the amazing flavors of fresh veggies, sweet Tupelo Honey and vine-ripened fruit. The Salt Air Farmers Market is open the first and third Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT in downtown Port St. Joe.
Prom Project Runway
The Junior Service League of Port St. Joe will be hosting their Prom Project Runway event on Saturday. The event will feature a fashion show and free prom dress shopping.

‘Black and White’ party Friday night
The official Black & White Adult Party, presented by Hustle Up Entertainment and H’COLA, will be Friday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Holy Family Center. Formal, semi-formal and fancy casual dress, for ages 21 and older. BYOB. $25 at the door.
African American History Festival this weekend
H’COLA’s 20th annual African American History Festival opens Friday at 4 p.m. at Franklin Square adjacent to the Holy Family Senior Center. The parade begins at noon Saturday when gates open for the all-day festival. Outdoor worship is noon Sunday, followed by festival activities. After being rained out last weekend, the Carrabelle History Museum is hosting the Carrabelle Culture Crawl this Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is a free celebration of local culture, art, music, history, food, and fun in the heart of downtown.
‘Sister Creatures’ at Chapman this weekend
The Panhandle Players present the comedy ”Sister Creatures” this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chapman Theatre, and Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 online at panhandleplayers.org and $25 at the door.

Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
