Liar’s Challenge
The Coastal Communities Association is kicking off their 2023 Easter basket drive with a fun event, the Liar’s Challenge, at the Haughty Heron on Feb. 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. EST. The event will have great storytellers coming from far and wide.
Mardi Gras street festival Saturday
The Apalachicola Mardi Gras Barkus Parade & Street Festival will be Saturday, Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. downtown, with a parade of costumed folks and their dogs at 1 p.m. Theme this year is Grateful Dogs so break out the tie dye and love beads and join the walkers, golf carts, and boats at Riverfront Park. Sponsored by the Mystic Krewe of Salty Barkers, for the benefit of the Franklin County Animal Shelter and the Florida Wild Mammal Association.
Library’s music series ends Friday
Multi-instrumentalist Christopher ‘Seep’ Seepersaud will perform Friday, Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Apalachicola Margaret Key Public Library. Enjoy instruments ranging from sitar and tabla to guitar and hand percussion. Light refreshments will be served.
Enjoy ‘The Lyric Tenor’ Sunday afternoon
The Ilse Newell Fund for the Performing Arts presents The Lyric Tenor, Mark Daniels and accompanist Rob Goodling on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Apalachicola. Admission is $20 per person, with open seating. Tickets available through Eventbrite at www.inconcertapalachicola.org, or by cash donation at the door. Reception in Benedict Hall after concert.

Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
