Vivian Kane celebrates 94th birthday

Carrabelle resident Vivian Kane celebrated her 94th birthday last week, on Wednesday, March 20.

She was born Vivian Thompson in Harveston City on March 20, 1930, sister to the late Vernon Thompson, for whom the Carrabelle Airport is named.

Harveston City, which had a mill at the time, no longer exists, having been transformed into Camp Gordon Johnston during World War II.

When she was a young girl, much of the industry in the area fizzled, and the family in 1932 moved into Carrabelle, where she attended high school. During a good portion of her adult years, she lived in Jacksonville, where she raised her four children: Julia Franklin, Dolly Beasley, Randall Yarborough and Ronald Yarborough. She has a total of 10 grandchildren and at least as many great-grandchildren.

She was married for 30 years to her first husband, Wesley Yarborough, a member of the Navy. She is the widow of Charlie Kane, of Jacksonville, to whom she was married for 14 years. She and Charlie bought the house she lives in now in Carrabelle. She moved back permanently around 15 years ago.
