Young girls sweep Georgia tournament
Three Franklin County girls traveled to Moultrie, Georgia earlier this month to compete in the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) “We Will Never Forget” tournament June 1.
The North Florida Glory Wakulla County fast pitch girls 8-and-under team went undefeated all day (5-0) and took home first place.
They downed the Valdosta, Georgia Laces 14-10, the Guyton, Georgia Heat 17-0, and the FSA Baston team out of Thomasville, Georgia 14-2.
In the bracket games, North Florida defeated the Laces 17-13, and Baston 15-3.
Taking part were shortstop #33 Riah Benjamin, of Carrabelle; pitching position #21 Ella Anderson, of Apalachicola; and first baseman #23 Jordan Keith, of Carrabelle, who collected two inside-the-park home runs.
In the victory over the laces, Keith drove in four runs on three hits. A single in the first scored one, a homer in the third scored one, and a single in the fourth plated two.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
