Forgotten Coast Fishing Report

Capt. Pete Barwick of Bounty Bay PSJ Charters had a great week offshore with red snapper as well as mangroves and a few mahi-mahi mixed in. The full moon is this weekend so the mangrove bite should be hot.

If you’re going to be productive inshore, fish the early morning bite or deeper holes over grass. Live bait such as bull minnows, pinfish and shrimp will be your best bet for trout and redfish. As far as artificial baits go, a good choice would be the Strike King Redfish Magic spinner bait. A lot of big bluefish are being caught now as well’ spoons and Got-cha lures perform the best.

Bluegill and catfish have been filling the coolers. Lakes, rivers and sloughs have been the best spots. Worms, crickets and even grass shrimp are great baits for bluegill. Catfish can’t resist a piece of cut bait or stink bait in the deeper holes. Bush hooks at night are another option.

Frog hunters, stop in to see us. Here at BlueWater Outriggers we have a vast assortment for all your hunting needs. We carry B&M Gigs as well as Eagle Claw in three, four and five tines. We also stock bamboo and aluminum poles. Our headlight and flashlight selections are second to none. We also carry NEBO lights. Until next week, be safe and tight lines.
