Burn ban still in effect for Lanark district

Hi Y’all, this is a slow time of year for those of us in Lanark. The snowbirds are not here yet and some of our residents have taken this time to leave for cooler places. Please try to participate in the events that are offered throughout the week. All our regular events will continue to occur unless advised by Facebook. If you have any questions about the events, email me at the address below or go to Facebook, Lanark Life. Just as a reminder, the American Legion’s Friday Burger Night has changed its times back to 5 to 7 p.m. ET

The Lanark community will soon have a full-service volunteer fire department. The St. James/Lanark Volunteer Fire Department is making plans for an open house soon. There is still a burn ban in the entire district of Lanark, but people continue to ignore this ban. This ban is set by the county commissioners to protect our community, and they alone will decide when it will be lifted.

Last weekend a simple, illegal campfire got out of hand. Our volunteers were able to answer the call and with the assistance of the volunteer Carrabelle Fire Department the fire was extinguished without serious damage. There is a push to get funds raised for the volunteer fire departments in Franklin County through property taxes. The amount of taxes to support these organizations is grossly low. When it comes to a vote for an increase to be voted in, please remember the sacrifices that these men and women are making for your community. Remember, “When you call, they come running, when they call, we should come running to help.”

The community eagerly awaits the return of the ambulances, which is in process.

The Lanark Wandering Stars has a wonderful quilting club that meets in Chillas Hall on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. This would be a great time to join the club while they are preparing for the Holiday Bazaar that will be held on Nov. 30 at the Lanark Village Boat Club.

The St. James Bay Golf and Pickleball Resort has shared congratulations to Vicki Dickert and Michele Yown on receiving silver at the Gainesville charity tournament representing the resort.

Love Lanark!
