LVA to appoint nominating committee

Hi Y’all,

I hope that all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. The weekend was busy and looks like this week will be calmer for Lanark.

American Legion Post 82 rocked this past weekend with food and music on Friday and Saturday. sending August on its way and ending the Summer Music Series. The summer times for the food events have changed back to from 5 to 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. Saturdays will be announced.

Attendees at the Legion on Saturday were surprised to see Lanark’s longtime residents Margaret and James Schumacher dancing to the music of “Sumpin Old Sumpin New.” Margaret has been ill for quite some time, with her loving husband by her side. She is regaining her health. Dancing is her passion, she was once a professional dancer, and in retirement she has taught many line dancing classes at the Carrabelle Senior Center and Chillas Hall in Lanark. Keep on dancing, sweet lady.

The Lanark Village Association will not have a meeting in September. There will be an October meeting on the first Monday, Oct. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Chillas Hall. A nominating committee will be appointed at this meeting in preparation for the association board elections in December. Please plan to attend and volunteer for one of the spots on this committee.

The Lanark Village Golf Club will have its monthly yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 8:30 a.m. in their parking lot on Heffernan across from Chillas Hall. If you have any donations, please bring them to the sale.

Labor Day is one of the Monday holidays in which Waste Pro does not pick up trash. The trash will be picked up on Tuesday. Please secure your garbage and don’t feed the bears. They are waiting for residents to pull their cans out. Mother bear and three babies are very active right now. Some residents or guests have been using cans that are not theirs after pick-up, when the owner can’t get it in quickly enough, and the owner is left with someone else’s garbage. This is not OK.

Just a reminder: Boats, trailers, and campers are not allowed to be parked on county right-of-way (which means next to the county roads) in Lanark Village Proper. This is according to county ordinances. Parking is limited in Lanark Village; please be considerate to the residents.

It seems that Lanark has gotten several new residents recently. Welcome to Lanark. Please get involved by joining all the organizations and caring about your new community.

Love Lanark!
