Cottondale hands Seahawks first loss
It was a hard-fought game from start to finish, Franklin County didn’t show an ounce of quit, but an incredible rushing game by the Cottondale Hornets was too much to overcome Friday night.
After the two teams each scored a first quarter touchdown, and the Hornets led 8-6, Cottondale outscored the Seahawks 24-14 in the second quarter, to take a 32-20 lead going into the locker room at the half.
Another touchdown in the third gave the Hornets a 32-14 lead, but the Seahawks kept it close with a fourth quarter touchdown and extra point. But Cottondale’s 16 points in the final stanza sealed the deal and a 56-27 victory, Franklin County’s first loss.
The Hornets tallied an eyepopping 610 yards on the ground, 418 of them by sophomore Jocarian Garrett, and 100 by freshman Zacarius Collins.
Garrett had five of the Hornets’ seven touchdowns, nearly all on huge runs from scrimmage of greater than 50 yards. Collins scored a touchdown as did sophomore Tramond Collins.
The Seahawks’ senior Tamarion Carr had a 35-yard touchdown run with 22 seconds left in the first half.With 8:42 left in the game Ajaylen McNair had a 45-yard touchdown run.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
