Village kicks off Halloween in style

Hi Y’all, Lanark has bustled into October, and we don’t even have many of our snowbirds yet. Happy Halloween started with the Lanark Village Golf Club sponsoring a “Trunk or Treat” for the little ones. Many spooky costumed volunteers were on hand with lots of treats and games.

Just down the road, the St. James Lanark Volunteer Fire Department was set up for some fun Trick or Treat, with activities, fireman hats, games, and up-close experiences with the firehose and firetruck for the children. A demonstration of how to put out a fire with a fire blanket was set up for the adults. Maybe another time they can set this demonstration up again. Lanark is excited about its new fire department and will be looking forward to an official opening.

The golf club finished with the little ones and moved on to their own entertainment. In came the decorated golf carts carrying more costumed spooks for the afternoon parade through the village and various parts of Lanark, well the kids got candy then too.

On to the American Legion for cart judging. What an array of fun decorated carts, but someone has to win. After a difficult decision, the winners were, first place went to Dee Ansley’s “Witchy Witch Cart,” which was full of witches. On into the American Legion for more fun as “Scaryoke” began with DJ Hope . The room was amazingly decorated, full of costumed partygoers. The group chose out of all the great costumes, “The Moonshine Mountain Man,” congratulations Jimmy Adkins.

That wasn’t the end of this great weekend. Next week I’ll tell you about the amazing reveal of the painting by Joan Matey and Barbara Ryan, two Lanark residents.

Looking forward Lanark will have its same scheduled events except Thirsty Thursday, which will be a Halloween Night Party, starting at 7 p.m. ET in Chillas Hall. DJ Jim will be playing your favorite Halloween tunes. Bring a snack to share, BOYB, and a $5 donation. Costumes are optional, but you will have more fun, and you might win a prize.
