Lafayette spoils Seahawk homecoming
After a lone touchdown in the first quarter, the Seahawks were on the wrong end of an onslaught by the Mayo Lafayette Hornets Friday night at Mikel Clark stadium.
Hornet junior quarterback, who would throw four touchdown passes on the night, drew first blood with a 20-yard touchdown flip to senior Jordan Murphy.
Less than two minutes later, Williamson would intercept a Seahawk pass, and then senior Tavis Hutson would scamper for a 65-yard touchdown and a 13-0 Hornet lead.
But with less than a minute to play in the quarter, junior quarterback Owen Juno would run it in from a yard out, and the Seahawks trailed 13-6 after one quarter.
From then on it was pretty much a rout, as Lafayette scored twice in the second quarter, and once each in the last two quarters, for a 39-6 victory.
In all the Hornets amassed nearly 500 yards, 258 on the ground led by 154 from Hutson, and 238 in the sir, led by Murphy’s 114 yards on four receptions.
The win lifted the Hornets record to 5-4, while the Seahawks fell to 6-3. They now wrap up the regular season Thursday, Oct. 31 at home against the undefeated 9-0 Aucilla Christian Warriors
During halftime, the crowd celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Mr. & Miss FCHS from the Class of 2015, with a visit from Kelsey Jones, as well as from the 2015 Homecoming Queen Summer Medley.
The homecoming court then was introduced. They included freshmen representatives Baylee Kent and Kayden Drake; and sophomore representatives Lilah Millender and Chason Martina, and Sienna Polous and Drew Rickards.
Junior representatives were Payton Carpenter and Owen Juno, Robyn Jones and Eric Smith, and Makynna Whitten and Nehemiah Robinson.
Senior representatives were Mya Huckeba and Dex Teat, Micahlyn O’Neal and Kaiden Lewis, Savannah Odom and Cooper Myers, Olivia Poloronis and Sheldon James, and Khali McNair and Preston Butler.
The 2024 Homecoming Queen Andrea Cruz crowned McNair and Butler the new queen and king.
The senior class was the top finisher during Spirit Week.
