Carrabelle man arrested in shooting incident

A 23-year-old Carrabelle man has been arrested and charged with a pair of felonies in connection with a Tuesday evening. Oct 29 shooting that began with a golf cart confrontation.

Kolton Keith was found hiding under a vehicle inside a garage, and arrested and charged with attempted felony murder, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, at about 9:45 p.m., minutes after the incident is believed to have taken place around the 1400 block of Highway 67.

According to the heavily redacted law enforcement report, the incident was reported by a witness who said they saw Keith run over another individual “and then shot at him several times and then fled the scene.”

Another witness reported to the deputy that “a white man in a white truck” had fled down Baywood Drive after shooting a man in a golf cart.



Officers from both the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Carrabelle Police Department arrived on the scene “and took a defensive position” while waiting for additional units to arrive.

While they waited, the officers observed a white pick-up that matched the description parked on the northern end of the property at 270 Baywood Drive.

A brief search of the property was unable to locate Keith, The officers then sealed the doors of the pick-up, which they reported “was still warm to the touch.”

During a subsequent search, officers located Keith in the garage. They said he waived his Miranda rights and made statements to the officers.
