It’s hoop time on the Forgotten Coast

The weather is getting colder, and that means it’s time to file into the warm confines of the high school gyms, because…..it’s time for basketball.

December will be a busy time for boys basketball, as November was mostly spent with assembling teams and getting pre-season action underway.

Wewahitchka was the first out of the gate, opening Nov. 19 at Wakulla Christian School with a 60-50 win.

Junior Kaden Books led the team with 23 points and freshman Rhemy Patrick tallying 20. Junior Jayvyn Walker added six, as coach Cameron Lister’s squad shot 52 percent from the field, and was 5 of 9 from the charity stripe.

On Nov. 21 at Altha, the Gators lost 76-68 as Walker scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Patrick and Brooks each scored 14, and senior Antone McNealy 10.

On Nov. 22 at Arnold, the Gators lost 75-40. Brooks led the team with 20 points, with Walker scoring six and Patrick five.

On Tuesday, the Gators hosted Blountstown

After warming up with pre-season games against Bay High School and Rutherford, the Franklin County Seahawks got down to business at their home opener with a 65-29 win over Wakulla.

The team shot 44 percent from the field, and was 4 of 6 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Sadiq Jones led the team with 13 points, seven steals, five rebounds and three assists. Freshmen Braelin Morris and Karcen Poloronis each had 11 points, while freshman Dre North had eight, and senior Ajaylen McNair and junior Ja’michael Miller each six. Miller led the team with seven rebounds.

Coach Ray Bailey’s team headed to Tallahassee Tuesday to face the Community Leadership Academy Lions.

At Port St. Joe, Coach Sandy Quinn’s Tiger Sharks were set to open their season Tuesday, Dec. 3 at home against Rutherford.
