Legionnaires back Carrabelle Food Pantry

Hi Y’all, the cold seems to be ghosting us. We have had some nice days, according to the snowbirds, but Lanark full-time residents don’t see it that way. I want my warm weather back.

There were a few errors in my article in last week’s newspaper and website that I would like to correct. I must have had a brain freeze: On Jan. 6, the Lanark Village Association had its first members’ meeting. The new board is Chairman Debbie Howells, Secretary Kathy Brown, Treasurer Barbara Nolen, and the four governors, Bert Boldt, Roy Hall, Janie Shafer, and Bobbi Trickett.

The Lanark community workshop went well with over 25 participants sharing their thoughts and comments on the outcome of the Warren property, owned by the LVA. A special members meeting on Monday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. will discuss the future expenditures of the LVA.

The American Legion Post 82 in Lanark has once again shared its generosity to the community. The Legionnaires and the Sons have collected money and food to go to the Carrabelle Food Pantry. Sherry Olson, fundraising chair, and Marilyn Hall, pantry president, accepted a check for $300, along with $43 in cash and several boxes of canned and dry food from Commander Vance Pedrick, and 2nd Vice President Jeff Allen. Jennifer and James “Smitty” Smith organized the fundraising. Jeannie Miller, a resident of Lanark, originally approached the Legion about the fundraiser. Many of those who are helped by the pantry are veterans. The members of the Legions’ Auxiliary also presented a check for $200 to the food pantry.

The Legion had its first third Saturday Karaoke after the summer and holidays with DJ Hope. It was great fun, but it will be the last regular Karaoke with Hope. We will miss Hope and her fun. However, we are in luck, Lounge Master Mike will be taking over the Karaoke. Thanks, Mike!

The Lanark Village Golf Club will host its annual Spaghetti Dinner Night benefit on Saturday, Jan. 25. This event will be held at the Lanark Village Boat Club on Highway 98 from 4 to 8 p.m. The dinner is $10 for a full spaghetti dinner and drink. Tickets are being sold in advance. See any LVGC member for tickets or send me an email.

Remember, memberships are due for all Lanark Village organizations and boat storage fees are due too. The LVA Boat/RV storage still has the best prices and spaces are available.

Stay warm and keep your pets warm.

Love Lanark
