Chili Cookoff Saturday at Chillas Hall

I need my warm sun back, the vitamin D pills just aren’t the same.
We had great times in Lanark last week, with the Lanark Village Golf Club having their annual fundraiser spaghetti dinner. They sure had plenty of food and people to enjoy it. Thank you to the community for supporting this organization.
There will be more fun coming up this week. The Lanark Village Association is busy selling tickets to their annual Chili Cookoff on Saturday, Feb. 1 The best chili contest is still open to join, sign your chili up. The silent auction has many items to bid on thanks to the generosity of donors, and the hard work of the silent auction chairman, Janie Shafer. You can bid on the items at any of the events at Chillas Hall. The cookoff will start at 4 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m., come enjoy a chili dinner with all the fixings for $10 and vote on your favorite chilli. The Lanark Village Golf Club will hold its monthly yard sale benefit on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and the sale is located on Heffernan across from Chillas Hall. Donations are welcomed on the day of the sale, or you can make arrangements with the yard sale committee to get your donations to the site. Please contact Natalie Little 850-509-2460.
Lanark does have a new exercise session on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 to to 9:30 a.m. in Chillas Hall for a small donation. Also, there will be a movement session on Tuesday for those free spirits to enjoy with Jerilyn at 9:30 a.m.
The Lanark Village Wandering Stars Quilters are busy showing off their newest “work of art.” They will sell raffle tickets on the beautiful wall hanging at just about every event up until April 26. Watch for the flyers to see the list of where you can buy your raffle tickets.
Heads up! American Legion Post 82 in Lanark will be having an event for Super Bowl LIX, the “Soup-R Bowl” on Sunday, Feb. 9, starting at 5 p.m. They will be serving soups, salads, desserts, and all the fixings for $10, plus, of course, the game with your friends. All are welcome!
Lanark Village Association will have its members’ meeting on Monday, Feb. 3 at Chillas Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. Learn what is happening in your community. You may ask questions and learn more about information on the new EMS Station in Lanark that is in the works now.
If you haven’t heard, the county has allowed the St. James-Lanark Fire Department to announce that the “fire ban” has been lifted. Please continue to use caution.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
