Lady Seahawks fall in regional semifinals

It may have been Valentine’s Day, but except from the Franklin County fans who filled the stands, there wasn’t a lot of love on the court for the Lady Seahawks.

Squaring up against the third seeded Malone Tigers, a team that brought a losing 7-11 record into the Nest, the second seeded Lady Seahawks managed to knot the game after the first quarter.

But after that, the tenacious Lady Tigers employed a stifling defense, and a penchant for hitting threes, to run up a double digit lead that would end in a 55-26 defeat of Franklin County.

Junior Yalaysha Barnes, at 5-feet 9-inches, who is averaging 15 points and nine rebounds for the season, was dominant underneath, as was the hot shooting freshman Belisha Faust, who is averaging better than 13 points per game.

Jordan McNair’s Lady Seahawks finishes the year at 13-7, with a district title.

Against top-seeded Blountstown also on Feb. 13, the fourth-seeded Port St. Joe Lady Tiger Sharks had just as tough a night, falling 60-18 in Calhoun County, after falling behind 24-7 after the first quarter.

Junior Ellie Newman led Port St. Joe with seven points, with six for sophomore Kayla Hill, three for senior Addie Silcox and two for junior Nijah Quinn.

Keion McNair’s Lady Tiger Sharks finish the season at 9-12, and runner-up in the district.
