Weems Foundation presents community with defibrillator

Hi Y’all,

OK, maybe this will be the last snap of cold weather. Global warming indeed! Cold and flu season has run rampant in our area. Stay well if you can.

Lanark always seems to be celebrating something. I hear all our activities over the weekend were a success, but I don’t know because I was at home sick.

Lanark’s new fire department, St. James – Lanark Volunteer Fire Department, shouts out its success with a new sign installed on the firehouse this week. Thanks to some very artistic supporters who donated the sign. Thank you from your community.

In keeping with “heartfelt” gifts for Valentine’s Day, Lanark also received an Automated External Defibrillator and case. On behalf of the Weems Healthcare Foundation, Colleen Zester presented the Lanark community with the AED, which is to be used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The fire Department installed the AED on the outside wall of Chillas Hall near the U.S. Postal Service substation, where it will be available to anyone in the community who might require this potentially lifesaving device.

The fire department will be demonstrating the use of the AED. When this demonstration is scheduled, all will be notified by the fire department by their Facebook page, posted notices, and other avenues. The community thanks the hub of Lanark, the Lanark Village Association, for allowing the AED to be placed on its property and offering to make the hall available for the demonstration on the use of the AED. Please familiarize yourself with the location and tell your neighbors who may not know.

The Lanark community sends condolences to the family of David Conrad Hinton. This article is not big enough to mention all of the accomplishments and contributions that Mr. Hinton made to our community. Longtime residents David and Christine Hinton were active in many areas of Lanark. Mr. Hinton passed away peacefully on Feb. 12. In December, the American Legion Riders honored the veterans at Arabella Health & Wellness of Carrabelle, where Mr. Hinton was a resident, along with his wife Christine. I was among the group that had the honor of visiting the veterans. We visited with Mr. Hinton and took a picture with him. Prayers and hugs go out to the Hinton family and friends.

Love Lanark
