Dump trucks collide near Carrabelle Beach Wednesday

A pair of dump trucks collided Wednesday morning on U.S. 98 near Carrabelle Beach, with neither of the drivers suffering serious injury.

According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 10 :50 a.m., a fully loaded dump truck, driven by a 52-year-old woman from Quincy,  was traveling westbound on US-98 near Beacon Street when an empty dump truck, driven by a 61-year-old Crawfordville man, was turning south from the westbound lane of US-98 into the parking lot of Carrabelle Beach.

The loaded truck was following too closely and swerved towards the empty truck, causing its front bumper to collide with the driver side of the turning truck, according to FHP.  The loaded truck then overturned onto its driver side onto  the south shoulder of US-98 facing west.

The empty truck was propelled by the force of collision back into the west bound lane of  travel facing west.

The driver of the loaded truck was transported for non-incapacitating injuries to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
