It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Hinton, who passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on February 12, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, David lived a life of service, dedication, and passion.

Born on August 27, 1935, David was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction as a Major. His commitment to his country spanned years of service, during which he not only earned respect for his leadership but also forged lasting friendships and life lessons that would be enjoyed sharing his knowledge learned.

After retiring from the Air Force, David dedicated himself to education, becoming a beloved math and science teacher at Franklin County School. His enthusiasm for the subjects he taught, along with his ability to connect with his students, left an enduring mark on the many lives he touched in the community. In addition to his teaching career, he served on the school board for 14 years, helping to shape the educational landscape for future generations.

An avid outdoorsman and passionate about multiple sports, David was an accomplished skeet shooter, participating in numerous competitions throughout his life. His love for technology was evident through his lifelong hobby as a ham radio operator, where he connected with people around the world including astronauts and built an extensive network of friends and colleagues.

Above all, David was a dedicated family man, who cherished his 45-year marriage to his loving wife, Christine Ryals Hinton. Together, they built a life full of memories, adventures, and unwavering love. He will be remembered for his steadfast devotion, his inquisitive mind, and his gentle, kind spirit.

David leaves behind his wife, Christine R Hinton, his 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and countless friends who were fortunate to know him. He was preceded in death by his brother Owen Hinton and both parents, Dr. Owen Sr and Cora Hinton.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at Harry T Reid Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 18. Viewing is at 10:00am – 10:30am where family, friends, and colleagues will gather to honor and remember him with full military honors at the gravesite located at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Florida at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to David’s favorite charities, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital or the incredible staff at VITAS Hospice Healthcare.

An extra measure of sincere gratitude to Francis Milliner for her loving dedication assisting David in his final months. The EMTs who went above the call to serve in times of distress and to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
