Melvin “Mel” G. Helms, was born in Elgin, Illinois on April 2, 1944 to the now late Harvey and Hilda Helms. He passed away June 29, 2023 at HCA Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, Florida at the age of 79.

Mel grew up in Palatine, Illinois where he attended Palatine High School and excelled in Baseball and Football. He went on to graduate from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where he served as President of his fraternity SAE. After college he served his country in the US Army in Germany. He spent most of his career as a Real Estate Developer in the Chicago area.

He loved playing golf and ultimately went on to own two courses in Wisconisn, Evergreen Golf Club in Elkhorn and Beaver Dam Country Club in Beaverdam.

Preceded in death by his parents Hilda (Benhart) Helms and Harvey Helms.

He lives behind his wife, Connie Glatz-Helms; sister, Judy; daughters, Alison Whitaker and Andrea (AJ) Helms and five grandchildren.
