Wesley James McMillan, of Daytona Beach, and a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away August 21, 2023. The son of Joseph Sr. and Bennie Lee McMillan, was born on March 1942 in Apalachicola, Florida. He attended the local schools graduating from Quinn High School as the only male student with the Class of 1959.

After the completion of high school, he left home alone for the first time at the age of 17. Wesley enlisted in the U.S. Army traveling to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for Basic Training. After three years and achieving the rank E5, desiring to broaden his education, he enrolled at Florida A&M. While in college, he continued his Military aspirations by being active in the ROTC. He completed college in 1965 with a B.S. Degree in Mathematics and Engineering and the military rank of 2nd Lieutenant. In 1968 he married his college sweetheart, Alma McNair, a marriage that lasted 55 years. To this union one son was born.

Wesley’s career spanned 31 years which included a tour in Vietnam and the following assignments: Associate Professor U.S. Military Academy, West Point, Deputy District Engineer, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and JOBS Director of Engineering and Housing Fort Eustis, VA; before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and settling in Daytona Beach, Florida. During retirement, Wesley traveled to Apalachicola to care for his Dad, loved to play sports, fish, and relax.

A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Dudley Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach, FL. The service will follow, beginning at 5:00 PM. A secondary service is scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Apalachicola, FL. Burial will be held at Magnolia Cemetery.
