Red Pepper Run draws huge field

Once again the Red Pepper Run 5K, held the first Saturday in March on St. George Island, drew an enormous field, making it among the most popular running events in Franklin County.

Under the expert direction of Shelley Shepard, 158 runners ran the 5K on Saturday, March 2, the morning of the annual St. George Island Regional Chili Cookoff.

Taking the win was Franklin County High School junior Josiah Friddle, who ran a 19:34.5 to finish more than a middle ahead of Ryley Sullivan, 29, who ran a 20:59.6.

The fastest female was Eden Keene, 41, who ran a 24:22.0 race.



The top youth male was Peter Desantis, 13, who clocked a 27:51.0, and best youth female was Franklin County freshman Addyson Paul, 14, who ran a 24:58.9.

The best Masters finish for males was Bob Marcella, 76, who totaled a 31:05.4. The best Masters finish for female runners, was Mary Stutzman, 75, who ran a 38:34.7.

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
