Lady Seahawks get seasons first soccer win
The Lady Seahawk soccer team scored their first win of the season with a final score of 2-0 against the Gadsden County Jaguars Monday night, Jan. 25.
A chilly surprise took place after the boys stormed the field with big hugs to congratulate their fellow soccer peers.
“It was a well-deserved and long-awaited victory,” Lady Seahawk Coach Anna Bull said. “The girls were so excited, they wanted it so badly, and they fought to the end.” Both goals were scored by freshman Jade Lively, a first-time soccer player who Bull described as “incredibly fast (and) a great finisher. She has really stood out the second half of the season and has come into her own.”
At Senior Night Alondra Jimenez and Kaitlin Robbins were honored. “We know you all have a bright future ahead,” said Bull.
In the district semi-finals Jan. 27 at Port St. Joe, Franklin County fell 9-1 to the Tiger Sharks.
The lone score came when Franklin County seventh grader Wendy Bernabe worked the ball into the Tiger Shark goal after an assist from freshman Jade Lively with 5:50 left before halftime.
The girls exited the season with a 1-12-1 record, but first-year Seahawk coach Anna Bull remained upbeat about her team’s prospects in future seasons, primarily because of its youth.
“We have (only) two seniors, five middle schoolers and lots of freshmen and sophomores,” said Bull. “We’re excited, (although) it’s going to be a long haul process, but by the time our freshmen are seniors, it’s going to be a strong team.
“They’ve got a lot of promise (and) a lot of fight,” she said. “They’ve kept at it all season. They fight to the end of every game, and they have improved so drastically from the start of the season. It’s been a blast.”
Athletic Director Dirk Strunk praised Bull for the job she has done with the girls soccer program. “The girls have come a long way since the beginning of the season,” he said. “She is a great addition to our athletic department here at FCHS. We look forward to having her lead our girls soccer program for many years to come.”

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
