At the time of this writing, Lanark Village is still under a Burn Ban. All fires, such as grills, must be attended.
I reported last week that the county had moved forward on making changes for the St. James/Lanark Fire Department. The community needs to continue to stand by the fire department and show our support. We need this fire department desperately and our ambulances back too, on this side of the county. Support action for both.
Please keep your animals on a leash, cats rarely attack! Within the last two weeks one resident has been threatened in two separate incidents. While riding a bike, six small dogs started chasing her and one bit her ankle. Days later while walking the Carrabelle Beach, a large dog ran at her and growled. I love animals, but there are countywide leash laws, so keep your dogs on a leash when they are not contained. There are few beaches that even allow dogs, so be thankful that you can take your fur babies to Carrabelle Beach and follow the laws! Leashes and carry a bag for their accidents.
Our golf lessons by Nola Tolbert, our Lanark Village Golf Club pro, went well with all who came. Anyone is invited to participate in these lessons, you do not have to be a member; however, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We will be announcing these lessons at a later date.
Cheryl Sanders, a possible commission candidate for Franklin County District 2 (Lanark’s district) had a Meet and Greet breakfast at Chillas Hall. Cheryl had a short question-and-answer session which was very helpful and brave. I encourage all voters and those who own property in District 2 to go to any opportunity you can meet the candidates. This event was not an endorsement; Chillas Hall is happy to rent to the public for events.
Several residents were treated to a viewing of the moon eclipse on May 15. John Relyea set up a powerful telescope and camera on the Lanark Village Golf Course for our viewing pleasure. Thanks John!
The Lanark Village Boat Club will be serving their amazing pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 21. All are welcome from 9 to 11 a.m. for a donation of $5.
The American Legion Post 82 on Oak Street in Lanark Village will be having their monthly Karaoke Night this Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. The public is welcome and it is a fun night.
BE BEAR WISE, Get Help, Report Conflicts, Know the Laws, 850-265-3676 and www.myfwc.com/bear. They are out there. Short term renters, please advise your guests to secure garbage and you be sure to supply a secure place for garbage. We don’t want it spread all over Lanark. Thank you!

Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
