UPDATE: 1-year-old girl killed in accident at Oyster Road home

A 14-month-old girl was run over and killed at about 1:45  p.n. at a private residence on Oyster Road near the intersection of Brownsville Road.

Sheriff A.J. Smith confirmed the fatality on Facebook Live.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, which was dispatched to 545 Oyster Road, a 42-year-old woman was backing a  pickup truck  out of a private residence on Oyster Road when she failed to notice the child in the path of the right front wheel. 



The child was struck by the wheel, and pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies,  Apalachicola police officers, first responders and an ambulance from Weems Memorial Hospital all arrived on the scene immediately following dispatch at 1:50 p.m.

Smith said the name of the child is being withheld to give the family time to grieve.
