St. George Island Brewfest sets turnout record
Organizers of the annual SGI Brewfest on St. George Island reported a record turnout for Saturday’s competition that saw 60 breweries compete for best-of-show prizes. More than 1,200 tickets were sold out three weeks before the single-day event opened, which was the seventh in the series.
Independent brewmasters from around the country – plus several from such beer-loving countries as Finland, Scotland, Sweden and Spain – enjoyed serving samples of their craft to an enthusiastic crowd under picture-perfect skies.
Sweeping top honors was Tallahassee’s own Deep Brewing Company, voted both best brewery and best beer, marking the first time a single vendor was awarded both of the festival’s top prizes.
All proceeds for the event go to underwrite the nonprofit Franklin County Humane Society. In 2023, the event contributed $70,000 in proceeds to the organization which provides a variety of services aimed at improving the lives of homeless animals.
