Forgotten Coast Fishing Report
With water temperatures warming, offshore fishing has as well. We are getting several reports now vermillion and lane snapper, as well as triggerfish and porgies, have been topping the charts. A double dropper rig with 30-pound fluoro or mono tied with a two or three 0 hook matched with a 6 or 7-ounce sinker from 60 feet out to 180 feet of water. The best baits seem to be Boston mackerel, cigar, miners and squid. One of our fishing staff Chris, along with his son CJ and friend Spencer got into bee liners, porgies, scamp, grouper and triggers.
Capt Chris Lantz of Gettin’ Reel Sportfishing reports that redfish trout, as well as pompano have been lighting it up inshore. Redfish and trout seem to do best in the morning on top water. Try Yozuri Surface minnows. Captain Lee Thompson of Shallow Seas Charters had another banner day with catches of Spanish mackerel and trout here on the bay. Tim Wilder Team Charters had a great trout bite as well as pompano; fish bites are getting the job done as well as live shrimp.
The rivers have been on the fall so fishing is on the rise. We are still getting a good string of shell crackers out of Lake Wimico on earthworms as well as crickets. Fly fisherman have been good as well using Bea Bea Bugs which are exclusive to the Gulf County area. Howards Creek is turning on as well with similar catches.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
