The Poet’s Voice

I remember Mama

From drill sergeant to evangelist

The following poem was submitted to “A Poet’s Voice” from Pastor Mattie Kinard, a reader of The Times in Brandon.

Speaking of her from the heartbeat that carries my blood flow through and out my body,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her from the memory of my mind,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her kindness towards you when you entered her presence,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her strength for life one could be safe in her care,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her character of personal self, her light reflected in a specific way,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her love for her children, there wasn’t any responsibility greater to her heart,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her walking through the Earth with her neighbors and friends, both good and bad

I remember Mama

Speaking of her belief in her God and her commitment in and to her measure of faith,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her commitment to the value she lived concerning integrity,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her about our conversations on her peace with her God,

I do remember Mama

Speaking of her as a nurturer of many,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her one day upon my arrival home from church Mama spoke…. You went in the water…. A bright light came before you….Just as you were entering the door,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her, Mama was speaking of my life changing born again experience,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her, Holy Spirit gave witness to Mama of my transformation,

I remember Mama

Speaking of her, we became sisters in Christ,,,,what a memory in God to have such a memory with Mama, I remember my mother,

Your daughter in LOVE.
