Pirate, bats, spiders to visit libraries

The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries will present author and living history interpreter, Robert Jacob, on Monday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. ET to share an engaging program about the Pirates of Florida at the Eastpoint branch.

Jacob, an award-winning author known for his expertise in pirate history, will share tales of daring adventures, treasure hunts, and legends, drawing from his books, A Pirate’s Life in the Golden Age of Piracy, Pirates of the Florida Coast and Blackbeard: The Truth Revealed. Florida’s pirate history is rich and colorful, with stories of pirates plundering its coasts,

cities, and shipping lanes from Key West to Pensacola and beyond. Jacob’s presentation will separate fact from fiction, including stories of the legendary José Gaspar and the pirates of the West Coast.

Jacob’s lifelong passion for history led to his induction into the International Pirate Hall of Fame, after his research revealed much of the historical record was contradictory and incorrect. In 2018, after a 10-year quest for accurate information on pirates, he published his first book, A Pirate’s Life in the Golden Age of Piracy.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, animal educator Jerry Walls will present a program, “Spiders and Bats,” at 1:30 p.m. at the Eastpoint branch, and at 3:30 p.m. at the Carrabelle branch.

A well-known animal educator from Amazing Animals, he will guide attendees

through a world of often misunderstood and even feared. Walls will provide insights into their behaviors and habitats, and the important benefits they provide to the environment.

A professional naturalist, Walls is a freelance nature writer and professional birding guide with a bachelors of science from Florida State.
