Here is a rolling list of holiday happenings taking place in Franklin County this year.

Apalachicola Downtown Christmas Celebration 

Friday, Nov. 29, 3- 8 p.m.



Experience the holiday spirit early, at Apalachicola Riverfront Park, at this year’s Apalachicola Downtown Christmas Celebration, hosted by the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center. Watch as Santa sails in on a shrimp boat and stick around for the lighting of the City Christmas Tree at sunset. There will be local merchants, live music, and dance performances. The staff and volunteers of the Chamber of Commerce will also be giving out hotdogs and popcorn free for all the children, and by donation for adults who come to visit Santa. Lighting of the Palms

Friday, Dec. 6, 5 p.m.

Kick off the holiday season with us at the St. George Island Lighting of the Palms event at the Lighthouse Park. There will be Christmas crafts and games, hot chocolate, cookies, books and gifts, and visits with Santa. The lighting of the palms will take place at dusk followed by the golf cart parade.

Santa Comes to The Hill, 

Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m.

Santa is coming to the Historic Holy Family Center, at 203 Dr. Frederick Humphries Street. Children get to enjoy treat bags, books, and pictures with Santa. This event is hosted by H’COLA-Hillside Coalition Of Laborers for Apalachicola, Mount Up Consulting, and Bring Me a Book Franklin. For more details, call (850) 323- 1021.

Holiday on the Harbor Festival and Boat Parade of Lights 

Saturday, Dec. 14, Noon – 7 p.m. ET

The Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to the 2024 Holiday on the Harbor Festival and Boat Parade of Lights on Marine Street and along the harbor in Carrabelle, FL. There will be an array of children’s activities, arts and crafts, food, music, dance, a lighted boat parade and fireworks. This free event is open to the public.

Eastpoint Christmas and Parade Celebration

Friday, Dec. 13, 4:30 p.m.

Eastpoint will host its 15th annual Christmas and Parade Celebration. The parade route will begin at South Franklin St. and end at School House Rd. Stick around after the parade for the festivities, including pictures with Santa at the Eastpoint Fire Station. For more details, contact Dottye Thornburg at (850) 927- 3349.

Meet the Editor

David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
