Seahawks 1-0-1 in district soccer play
The Franklin County Seahawks soccer team ended 2024 with a 2-7-4 overall record, including a 1-0-1 record in district play.
Under the direction of Coach Brett Dively and assistant Luis Rameriz, the boys opened Nov. 5 in Tallahassee at Community Christian, falling 3-0 to the Chargers. Junior goalie Kingston Williams, with 14 saves, took the loss.
On Nov. 8 at home, the Seahawks tied Taylor County 2-2. Freshman Steve Esteban and junior Alexander Narine each scored a goal, with junior Enrique Gomez tallying two steals. Williams, with 16 saves, earned the tie.
On Nov. 12 at home, Franklin County lost 9-1 to Rickards, as sophomore Gernaro Esteban, who had three steals, scored the lone goal on an assist from Narine. Williams, with 11 saves, took the loss.
On Nov. 15 in Panama City, the Seahawks tied Rutherford 1-1. Eighth grader Josh Roblero scored the goal, on an assist from Steve Esteban. Gomez led the team with five steals. Williams had 15 saves and earned the tie.
On Nov. 19 at Port St. Joe, the Seahawks got their first win of the season with a 4-0 shutout of district rival Tiger Sharks. Genaro Esteban scored three goals, and Narine one, as he and Steve Esteban each had an assist. Gomex led the team with five steals, as Willaims, with 12 saves, got the win.
On Nov. 21 at home, Franklin County lost 3-1 to Gadsden County, as Roblero scored the lone goal on an assist from Steve Esteban. Gomez led the team with five steals and Williams, with a dozen saves, took the loss.
At Godby on Dec. 3, the Seahawks lost 2-0 to the Cougars. Junior Nelson Choc led the team with five steals and Williams, with 18 saves, took the loss.
On Dec. 10 at home, Franklin County earned its second win, a 9-2 victory over the Munroe Bobcats. Narine scored three times and Gomez twice, with senior Michael Hill, eight grader Lake Shiver, Steve Esteban and Roblero each scoring one. Steven Esteban had three assists, and freshman Kelvion Boyd, Gomez and Narine each one. Gomez led the team with five steals. Choc, as goalie, had two saves, and Williams had five and took the win.
The next day, at Rickards, the Seahawks were shut out 6-0. Gomez led the team with seven steals, and Williams, with 16 saves, took the loss.
On Dec. 13 at home, Franklin County tied Community Christian 2-2. Freshman Milly Martinez and Roblero each scored a goal, and junior Owen Juno and Narine each had an assist. Gomez led the team with six steals, and Williams, with 11 saves, got credit for the tie.
On Dec. 17 in Perry, the Seahawks fell 1-0 to Taylor County. Gomez and Choc each had six steals and Hill, with 11 saves, took the loss.
The next night at home, Franklin County tied district rival Marianna 1-1, as Steve Esteban scored the team’s lone goal on an assist from Gomez, who also led the team with eight steals. Williams, with a dozen saves, earned the tie.
On Nov. 20, the team forfeited on what would have been an away game at St. John Paul II.
The Seahawks resume play Jan. 8 at Gadsden County.

Meet the Editor
David Adlerstein, The Apalachicola Times’ digital editor, started with the news outlet in January 2002 as a reporter.
Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He later edited the weekly Bellville Times, and as business reporter for the daily Marion Star, both not far from his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1995, he moved to South Florida, and worked as a business reporter and editor of Medical Business newspaper. In Jan. 2002, he began with the Apalachicola Times, first as reporter and later as editor, and in Oct. 2020, also began editing the Port St. Joe Star.
