Seahawk wins raise record to 16-4
The Franklin County Seahawks varsity boys baseball team achieved back-to-back wins last week, as they raised their record to 16-4 as they prepare to wind down their regular season.
On Monday April 18 at home, sophomore Cody Abercrombie didn’t allow a single run against Liberty County, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Seahawks to a 4-0 victory.
The lefty went seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one.
Bulldog senior Desoto took the loss for Liberty County as he pitcher surrendered four runs on four hits over five-and-two-thirds innings, striking out seven.
Seahawk junior Chase Crum went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Franklin County Seahawks in hits. Franklin County didn’t commit a single error in the field, led by senior Gage Boone, who had 10 chances in the field, the most on the team.
Boone and senior Garrison Cook both drove in runs.
The following night in Panama City, Franklin County sailed to an easy 19-3 victory over Bay.
Bay fired up the offense in the first inning, scoring one run, to draw first blood.
But the Seahawks pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning, when senior Blakely Curry doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Cook doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
After a three-run third inning, the Seahawks tallied seven runs in both the fourth fifth innings. The offensive firepower was led by Curry, Cook, Wyatt Abercrombie, and Cody Abercrombie, who all drove in runs.
Boone was the winning pitcher for Franklin County Seahawks. The righty surrendered three runs on three hits over four innings, striking out four. Crum threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Coach Kevin Cox’s squad saw the ball all night, racking up 17 hits in the game. Senior Will Varnes, Cook, senior Larry Winchester, Curry, junior Evan Stanley, and Cody Abercrombie each racked up multiple hits for Franklin County Seahawks. Cook and Varnes each collected three hits to lead the Franklin County Seahawks.
After traveling east Monday night to face the St. John Paull II squad, with a record of 10-5, the Seahawks were to be at home Tuesday night, against the Florida High School Seminoles, and on Thursday, against Rutherford.

Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
