A countywide survey of historic resources, contracted by the Florida Department of State using National Park Service dollars, is soon to commence, beginning with a public meeting next week.
The Jacksonville-based Terracon Consultants Inc. firm, which provides cultural resource management services, has been enlisted to provide local governments and state agencies with recommendations on how best to preserve Franklin County’s significant historic resources, especially in the case of disasters.
Using information collected from the public right-of-way, Terracon will conduct the survey beginning in May through mid-June.
A public meeting to discuss this project in more detail will be held at C-Quarters Marina, 501 St. James Avenue in Carrabelle this Wednesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. Representatives of the Florida’ Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources, and from Terracon, will detail the project’s scope and goals, followed by a question-and-answer session.
