Lanark Legion Post hosts Memorial Day ceremony

Hi Y’all, Remember and Honor! Thank God you are an American.

As a Memorial Day Tribute, the American Legion, Post 82 in Lanark Village will have a ceremony on Monday, May 30. The program begins at 11 a.m. with a keynote speaker followed by the flag ceremony which includes Taps being played by one of the members of the American Legion Sons and Riders and ending with retiring of flags. This is a very moving ceremony. The public is invited.

You may have noticed flyers around Chillas Hall announcing “Wine Down Wednesday.” The Lanark Village Association will be sponsoring this event, maybe every week. Let’s get together and have some fun. Social Hour starts at 5 p.m. (that is when that BYOB comes out, seriously it can be water) and at 6 p.m. we will enjoy dinner (covered dish, whatever you want to bring) with each other.

As for the county making moves to help the St. James/Lanark Fire Department, it has not turned out that way. Since the board of the fire department has not complied with the taxpayers (there really wasn’t a board), since it was in the state of safety emergency and crumbling before our eyes the county has shut it down. This should not have happened, where were the safety nets? If the county has the power at this time, were all the opinions considered? Some of our Lanark area residents feel that this would be the time to pull the department “out of the ashes,” and try to salvage what we have. A total reconstruction will take at least a year (realistically more). The community needs to stand together and resolve this issue. This has been a “comedy of errors” (not so funny). Sometimes when you try to make something work and it does not work, you can’t just stop. We need this fire department desperately and our ambulances back too.

BE BEAR WISE, Get Help, Report Conflicts, Know the Laws, 850-265-3676 and www.myfwc.com/bear. They are out there. Short-term renters, please advise your guests to secure garbage and you be sure to supply a secure place for garbage. We don’t want it spread all over Lanark. Thank you!

Love Lanark
