The Christmas season opened with a breath of fresh air from the North Pole, as temperatures dropped as low as 41 degrees in Apalachicola Friday.
But the cold didn’t deter an enormous crowd to gather in Apalachicola’s Riverfront Park in the afternoon for the annual arrival, the day after Thanksgiving, of Santa Claus aboard a shrimp boat.
Santa and Mrs Claus, whose visit was once again arranged by Mark and Natalie Parsley, listened to the Christmas wishes of a queue of children and their families that extended well into the darkened night.
City commissioners Despina George and Anita Grove joined with staffers from the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event, in giving out hot dogs and popcorn to the many families on hand. Prior to then, David Adlerstein began as a newspaperman with a small Boston weekly, after graduating magna cum laude from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
